1. Mangeshi temple


On a hillock at Priol’s Mangeshi Village, Ponda Taluka, is Shri Mangeshi Temple. One of the biggest, richest, and most popular Hindu shrines in goa, Shri Mangeshi Temple is situated. 

Mythologically speaking, after losing it all in a dice game against his wife Parvati Lord Shiva came to Goa. He disguised himself as a tiger and scared Parvati as he came to look for him. In shock he pronounced “Trahi Mam Grisha,” meaning “O Lord of the Mountains, save me.” Then Shiva went back into his natural shape and came back. This story was associated with the word’ ‘ Mam Grisha’,’ and Shiva was called’ Manguesh.’

2. Colva beach


One of the oldest, largest, and spectacular South Goa beaches is Colva Beach. The coastline is surrounded by coconut palm trees, stretching from Bobmalo in the north to Cabo de Rama in southern coasts by the beach, which is about 25 km of fine powdered sand and white sand. One of the best beaches in Goa is Colva.

It used to be Margao’s retreat in the colonial days. The luxurious lifestyle of the aristocratic class nowadays resembles the beautiful houses and villas which dot the village.

3. Dudhsagar falls


One of the country’s highest waterfalls, Dudhsagar Falls is over a thousand feet high. They are surrounded by a lush tree forest in the Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. Trek to the falls, join a camp overnight or just get there in a park-organized van. 

The falls are a pretty place for your gang to visit. It gives you the opportunity to click some amazing candids, and if you’re lucky, you may also have the chance to enjoy the rainbows in your pictures. 4. Panaji

5. Dr. Salim’s bird sanctuary


The Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, located in North Goa at a distance of 4.8 kilometers from the Kadamba stand in Panjim, 31.4 kilometers from Vasco Da Gama Train station and 15 kilometers from Karmali Train Station. It is the ideal place for half a day sightseeing on Goa.

On Chorao Island, on Mandovi River, is located the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. This sanctuary is one of India’s most renowned bird sanctuary. It was named after Dr. Salim Ali, India’s famous ornithologist. This bird sanctuary has a surface of 1.8 sqkm and is one of the smallest bird sanctuaries in Goa. The Shrine houses approximately 400 species of local and migratory birds. The shrine is full of floods.

6. Old Goa


What remains of this once great and now abandoned colonial Goa capital are towering churches and impressive convents. A trip to Old Goa is like being transported back in time–some of the restored architecture is currently in use, bringing you back to the real world. 

Old Goa is best visited during daylight hours with its outdoor sights. Spending time here is a half-day trip that should cover all the sights. For short distance, cabs tend to overcharge, book with a reliable company. Bring sunscreen and water; and a weekday morning visit.

7. Fort Aguada


Fort Aguada and its iconic lighthouse make a pretty picture with the serene Sinquerim beach on one side. Spend an afternoon exploring this ancient structure overlooking the sea, extending your visit to sunset for some of Goa’s best views of the sea.

To reach the place, there are plenty of local cabs and buses available. Traveling with tourist groups is always a better option so you can explore the place and get to know it in detail. During the rainy season, the best time to visit this place is as the iconic view of this place is a must watch.

8. St. Francis Xavier’s church or the basilica of Bom Jesus


St Francis remains one of Goa’s oldest church in this church. This place is also on the UNESCO list of places that must be visited. The Bom Jesus Basilica is over 408 years old and every day is open to the public. St. Francis Xavier’s body is in a well-decorated casket that can be seen in the pictures below. Solemn’ body ‘ exhibitions take place every ten years.

9. Butterfly Conservatory of Goa


A conservation project of the Butterfly Conservatory of Goa, an NGO dedicated to the restoration of West Ghat’s natural heritage, is located 26 km from the Panjim Kadamba Bus Stand, 25 km from Margao Railway Station and 4 km from the Ponda Bus Stand.

It’s located 3 km from the Spice Farm Tropical and 4 km from the Farm Spice Sahakari, Butterfly Conservatory. The restaurant covers 4000 meters and is founded by a few who are enthusiastically about nature and also environmentally aware. Only 25 butterfly species could be seen at the time of establishment, but currently 133 butterfly species embellish the preservatory.
